Forget about your worries and your strife.
You get the feeling that Baloo from The Jungle Book would approve of the McLaren Essentials range – if he wore clothes. The items in it are the functional foundation of any McLaren fan’s wardrobe. No matter what, they’ll ensure you look the part for Team Launch and see you through the season.
But this is no ordinary Formula 1 season. The new year marks the start of a new era for the sport, as a heavily revised rulebook will bring us radically different cars – and perhaps even racing. That’s not all that’s different for 2022, the McLaren Store is too. We’ve teamed up with one of the leaders in premium sportswear, Castore, to not only design and develop new McLaren merch but also create a new home for it.
Here’s our rundown of the brand-new Essentials range now available from the new-look McLaren Store…
the tees
As far as ‘essential’ clothing goes, there’s nothing more essential than the trusty T-shirt, except maybe underwear, but we’ve yet to branch out into that sphere yet, so put on some pants – or go commando – and wear our new tees with pride.
These T-shirts are your style building blocks this season. Much like the chassis of an F1 car, by getting this part of your outfit right, you won’t go far wrong.
You’ve got a choice of black or papaya – and whichever you opt for, there’s a McLaren F1 team logo emblazoned across the chest. In the words of Christian Dior, “You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it for almost any occasion.” Opt for Papaya, on the other hand, and you’ve got a tee that’s going to make people sit up and take notice.
We recommend teaming either a T-shirt with some jeans, or perfecting the lounge look by wearing a pair of joggers. Fancy a tea in a lighter shade? The new Essentials range also features a not-so-humble white crewneck that swaps the McLaren F1 team logo on the chest for a supersized Papaya speedmark.
The hoodies
Want even more speed mark? And let’s face it, who doesn’t? Look no further than the hoodies in the Essentials range.
Like our new, white crewneck, you can stick with a Papaya speedmark – this time across the chest of an anthracite-grey hoodie – or you can go with a hoodie that looks like it’s been dipped in Papaya by our paint and coatings partner AkzoNobel. For those of you after a more understated look, there’s a light-grey option featuring the McLaren F1 team logo.
Whichever color you choose, these hoodies tick all the essential boxes: soft fabric, long sleeves and a spacious hood. They look as good as they feel and are perfect to wear on the sofa while binge-watching McLaren Unboxed, Uncharted, Unlocked, or Drive to Survive on Netflix.
The polos
But what if it’s too cold for a T-shirt and too hot for a hoodie? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with the endlessly versatile polo shirt – three of them, in fact.
As with the tees and hoodies, there are three colors to choose from. There’s white, papaya or, our personal favourite, Vega blue – which will add a splash of color to your wardrobe.
